MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.
In Saturday's 35-32 win over Boise State at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, Cantin-Arku made one of the biggest plays of the game.
On a 24-yard field goal attempt by the Broncos, Cantin-Arku broke through the middle of the line, blocking the attempt. He then scooped up the loose ball and darted down the field for an 80-yard score to give the Tigers a 21-17 lead they wouldn't surrender.
The blocked field goal returned for a score was the first by a Tiger since Greg Jackson (80 yards) pulled it off against Houston in 2006.
Cantin-Arku finished the game with four tackles and a quarterback hurry.
The Memphis Tigers will host Tulane at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on Friday, Oct. 13. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
