Tigers Return to Fieldhouse for Rematch with Temple

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will make their return to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse this Saturday afternoon when they square up for a rematch with the Owls of Temple University.
Memphis (10-8, 2-3 AAC) is coming off a 20-point victory over Katrina Merriweather's alma mater, Cincinnati, where Jamirah Shutesand Madison Griggs combined for 28 second half points to lead the Tigers to the 78-58 win. Along with Griggs and Shutes, Hannah Riddick picked up her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Bearcats.
Saturday's win over Cincinnati marked the second 20+ point AAC win for the Tigers this season.
As a team, the Tigers are holding their opponents to just 28% shooting from beyond the arc and are grabbing just over 15 offensive rebounds per game, ranking them in the top-25 in the country.
For the season, Shutes and Griggs lead the team with 14.4 and 12.8 points per contest while Riddick has pulled down a team-best 108 rebounds this season.
Temple (7-10, 2-3 AAC) is coming off their second consecutive AAC loss after they fell 69-57 to Tulsa.
Tarriyonna Gary led the team with 19 points, 15 of them coming from behind the arc, while Tiarra East and Aleah Nelson added in 12 points each. The Owls would get out to a slow start, facing a 24-4 deficit after the first quarter.
Aleah Nelson and Jasha Clinton lead the Owls this season, offensively, with a combined 26.2 points per game while Tiarra East is adding in just under 11 points per contest while grabbing nearly six rebounds, a team best.
This will be the second time the Tigers and Owls have met this season with the first coming just before the New Year when Memphis made the trip up to Philadelphia. Despite an early lead, the Tigers would suffer the 80-69 loss after Temple strung together a 30-point second quarter.
Madison Griggs led the team with 20 points on 50% shooting from the field while Destiny Thomas came off the bench to add in 10 points and grab eight rebounds.
