Davis Named AAC Player of the Week for Fifth Time

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the fifth time this season, Memphis Tiger Kendric Davis has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday morning. It marks the 10th AAC weekly honor of his career.
He shares the honor with Tulane's Jaylen Gibbs this week.
The fifth-year point guard averaged a league best 31.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists to go along with 2.5 steals in a split week on the road. He finished 19-of-39 (48.7%) from the floor and converted on 21-of-25 (84.0%) trips to the free throw line.
In Wednesday's road test at UCF, the Tigers lost a heartbreaker in double overtime, 107-104, but Davis did everything he could to get the win. He dropped a career high 42 points and scored 19 of the team's 26 points in the extra periods. He finished 10-23 overall and 21-23 at the charity stripe.
The 42-point effort was the fifth-best single-game output in program history and just one point shy of the AAC single-game record of 43, set by former Tiger Jeremiah Martin in 2019. He also set the conference record with 21 made free throws and tied the Memphis record for free throws attempted. Win Wilfong held the record since 1966.
Davis then responded with a 20-point outing that included the game-winner as time expired to life the Tigers at Tulane, 61-59.
He played 39 minutes and finished 9-16 shooting overall, and scored 16 of his points after halftime.
Memphis is back in action Thursday when Wichita State comes to town for a 6 p.m. showdown inside FedExForum on ESPN+. The Tigers will put their 14-game home winning streak on the line, which is the 10th-longest streak in the country.
Fans planning to attend should arrive early as there will be 1,000 Gene Bartow bobbleheads handed out at the gate in the first celebration game for the 1972-73 Memphis State national runner-up squad.
