Tigers Suffer Setback at Purdue to Open Spring

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Memphis women's tennis opened its spring slate Sunday afternoon with a tough 4-3 loss at Purdue.
The Boilermakers grabbed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
The Tigers battled in singles action, taking decisions on courts three, four and six.
Monique Woog put Memphis on the board with a sweep of Csilla Fodor, 6-3, 6-3, at the third position.
Emily Meyer also took care of her opponent in straight sets, winning 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4. Her decision pulled the Tigers to within 3-2 on the day.
Micah Pierce recorded the other point for the Tigers after battling from behind on court six. She fell 7-6 in a tight first set before bouncing back to defeate Juana Larranaga 6-4, 6-4 in the final two frames.
"It was a tough loss to start the year, but the girls competed hard, I'm proud of their efforts." head coach Hayden Perez said. "We will get back to work and get ready for a tough Alabama team next week."
UP NEXT
The Tigers will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 22 in Tuscaloosa when they take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
