Tigers Battle Tough on Road at No. 40 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Memphis Tiger women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at No. 40 Alabama Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.
The Tigers opened up the match strong in doubles, winning the first two matches to take the first point. Aran Teixido Garcia and Emily Meyer teamed up for a 6-2 win at the top position before Carlota Farres Carre and Miriam Grossman secured the doubles result on court three with a 6-4 win.
In singles, Alabama picked up wins in the first three matches when Camila Soares earned a victory at the third position to keep the Tigers alive. She defeated Ola Pitak 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 to pull Memphis back within 3-2 in the match.
The Crimson Tide secured the victory on court two before Meyer brought home the final result in the fourth position 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3.
"I'm proud of the efforts today, it was a great team effort," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We got outplayed at a few positions, but we battled hard one through six.
"We came up short, but it was a great match. We have to give credit to Alabama for playing well."
UP NEXT
The Tigers (0-2) are on the road again next week for a pair of matches. They start off Tuesday in Oxford, Mississippi against Ole Miss at 5 p.m. before traveling to the West Coast for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend where they will battle Columbia on Saturday and either Clemson or Pepperdine on Sunday.
