Smith leads the Tigers to Sweep of Queens and Win Over Oakland

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers had their first sweep of the season with a win over Queens before earning a 3-1 win over Oakland Friday night.
Queen challenged the Tigers to begin the second set and the two teams would go back-and-forth with Memphis eventually pulling away to win the set 25-20.
Momentum carried into the third for Memphis and the Royals worst hitting percentage of the match.114) paved a path to victory for the Tigers. After Queens tied the set at 15 all, the Tigers went on a 10-2 run and won the final set 25-17. Match point came on a Anna Hayes service ace.
Notables
During the second set, Memphis used an 8-2 run following a timeout to pull away from the Golden Grizzlies after being tied at 11. A kill from senior Kate Bass secured the 25-18 second set win. Determined to not go quietly, Oakland built an 12-5 lead and ultimately winning the third set 25-10.
Miaya Smith timely kills kept the Tigers' energy levels high during the fourth set. Smith had two blocks and two kills as the Tigers gained an early 8-4 lead.
