Tigers Beat TCU; Drop Match to Coastal in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Tigers split matches with TCU and Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
TCU led the frame until Memphis tied at 17-17 after calling a timeout, went back-and-forth at 23 all TCU called timeout. TCU won the second 26-14 after a successful challenge that resulted in an overturned call.
Maya Smith's ninth block of the match started a 7-1 run for the Tigers, giving them a 12-6 lead. Memphis held strong against a couple TCU surges to win the set 26-24 and gain the 2-1 advantage in the match.
Memphis never trailed in the final set. TCU was forced to take a timeout after the Tiger jumped ahead 9-3. Determined not to go quietly, the Horned Frogs closed in on the lead with the Tiger ultimately winning 25-23 in the set and match 3-1.
Individual Notables
Loren Robertson tied her career-best with a match-high 47 assists.
JUCO All-American Jasmyn Tate continued to impress, leading the Tigers with 15 kills on .206 hitting percentage and four blocks.
Four Tigers had double-digit kills for the Tigers; Toelke (12),Crescenzo (12), Smith (13) and Tate (14)
The Tiger fell 0-3 to Coastal Carolina to finish the tournament. Coastal won the first set 25-15 and the second 25-14 to take the 2-0 lead. Memphis showed life during the start of the third set but could not hold off Coastal's attack, losing the set 23-25.

The Tigers return to Finch Center next weekend to host Queen, Oakland and Illinois State for the Beal Street Challenge.
Memphis 3, TCU 1
TCU jumped out to a 15-13 lead over the Tigers at the first media timeout. Memphis used to break in play to regroup, going on a 6-0 rally following to take a 17-16 edge. Another 5-0 run by Memphis put them up 24-20. They held off a late set surge by TCU to win the first frame 27-25.TCU led the frame until Memphis tied at 17-17 after calling a timeout, went back-and-forth at 23 all TCU called timeout.
