Tigers Return to South Campus for Battle with Houston

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will make their return to the Track & Soccer Complex this Thursday evening to take on the University of Houston.
Memphis (4-3-3, 0-0-2 AAC) is coming off their third consecutive tie after taking a 2-2 draw with Cincinnati last week. Saorla Miller got things rolling for the Tigers early in the match when she scored in just the 2' to give Memphis the early 1-0 lead. Following a Bearcat goal, Mya Jones would net her third goal of the season in the 62' for the go-ahead goal. But Cincinnati would get one last goal in the 82' of play to take the 2-2 draw.
For the season, Jones, Momo Nakao and Anne-Valerie Seto lead the team with three goals each while Jocelyn Alonzo and Saorla Miller have combined for seven of the team's 13 assists. Claire Wyville has been the go-to in goal for the past four matches, making 12 saves and recording three shutouts.
Houston (4-4-1, 1-1 AAC) is coming off a 1-0 loss at East Carolina where the Pirates connected off a corner kick in the 68' of the match. The Cougars were held to just three shots the entire match.
For the season, Janna Singleton leads the team with three goals while Nadia Kamassah has netted two. Haley Woodward has been the only one in-goal for Houston with 33 saves made in 810 minutes of work.
The Tigers have seen great success in the past against Houston, claiming nine of the last 10 matchups. Most recently, Memphis took the 1-0 win over the Cougars last season in the semi-final round of the American Athletic Conference Championship when Tanya Boychuk connected with Saorla Miller for a goal in the 85' of the match. The win would send the Tigers to the Championship match.
