Sep 12, 2022 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a 1-0 win over then undefeated Green Bay, the Memphis men's soccer team found themselves with two players on the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Awards list as Cam Weston was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week while Colin Welsh was named to the Honor Roll.
Weston, a senior from Leicester, England, helped lead a Memphis backline that shutout a then undefeated Green Bay team and held them to just two shots on-goal for the entire match. Weston, who also blocked two shots during Saturday night's match, was the only field player to play the entire 90 minutes.
This is the first Defensive Player of the Week award for Weston this season and the first for his career.
Welsh, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., picked up his second solo shutout of the season over Green Bay, making two saves against the Phoenix in 90 minutes of work. Welsh currently ranks in the top-25 in NCAA Division I and second in the AAC in goals against average.
This is the first Honor Roll award for Welsh this season and the first for his career.
Memphis (2-1-1) will be back at South Campus this Saturday night when they host SMU in their conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage available on ESPN+
