Aug 20, 2022 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a statement win over Little Rock to open the season, the Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will make the trip south to take on No. 18 Ole Miss.
Memphis (1-0) is coming off a 6-1 season opening win on Thursday night against the Trojans of Little Rock. Anne-Valerie Seto had a career night where she netted two goals and played 41 minutes. Along with Seto, Jocelyn Alonzo, Lilly Huber, Zoe May and Mya Jones all recorded goals.
Kaylie Bierman got the start in goal for the Tigers on Thursday night, playing the full 90 minutes where she recorded one save and her first win in the Memphis blue.
Ole Miss (1-0), who also won in commanding fashion for the season opener; the Rebels snagged a 5-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night where five different Ole Miss players recorded goals and the team held SLU to just one shot the entire match.
The Tigers and Rebels are no stranger to one another with the team's playing against each other every year for the past 10 seasons. While Ole Miss holds the 12-9-3 record over the Tigers, Memphis has won two of the last four matchups while playing to a 1-1 double overtime draw last season.
Last season when the team's met, Jocelyn Alonzo picked up her second goal of the season when she found the back of the net in the 27' of play. Ole Miss would tie the game with a goal from Molly Martin in the 55' of play. While Memphis fired off 25 shots during the 110 minutes of play, they would not be able to break the tie and would take the 1-1 draw.
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick-off in Oxford. Coverage of the game can be found on SEC Network+ with live stats available here.
