Track and Field’s 11 Qualifiers Start Competition at NCAA East Regional

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis track and field had 11 athletes qualify to compete in the preliminary round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the East Regional in Bloomington, Ind.
Hosted by Indiana University, events are slated to begin Wednesday morning and will end Saturday evening with track events.
All eleven qualifiers for the Tigers competed in the American Athletic Conference Championship less than two weeks ago, where several brought home titles and medals.
DeeNia McMiller accounted for three of the 12 medals for the Tigers, with her conference-record titles in the women's hammer and shot put and also a silver in the discus. She enters in the East Regional at eighth and 14th in the nation for shot put and hammer, respectively.
Also breaking a conference record last week was Mona Jaidi in the women's javelin. She holds a top-15 spot in the NCAA entering this week.
Two other qualifiers for the weekend include conference title-winners Iason Machairas and Cole Riddle. Each earned the top spot in the men's shot put and pole vault, respectively. Riddle begins regional competition with an 11th-place ranking in the nation.
Also competing this week for the Tigers are pole vaulters Alyssa Morello and Drew O'Connor. Morello finished at the AAC Championships with a silver and O'Connor with a fourth-place finish.
Final qualifiers include Elina Nebl and Vitaliy Favorov in the javelin throw, Robby Watson and Vigdis Jonsdottir in the hammer and Adam Yakobi in the 400m hurdles. All earned at least a top-five finish the last time out at conference championships.
All four days of competition will have live streaming through Indiana University.
