NEW CASTLE, Ind.- Memphis Tiger head women's basketball coach Katrina Merriweather was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2022 Silver Anniversary Team. Merriweather, along with seventeen others, were named to the squad based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.
Â
Merriweather, who was a 1997 Indiana All-Star member while playing at Cathedral High School, was a standout for the Fighting Irish while being named ICGSA All-State, the Indianapolis Recorder City Athlete of the Year, an Indiana All-Stars John Wooden Award winner, three-time All-City, two-time All-Regional and 1996 All-Semistate after helping to lead Cathedral to four sectional titles and the 1996 Regional Championship.
Â
A 1,000-point scorer, Merriweather finished her prep career averaging 20.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in her senior season and set Cathedral records for free throws made in a season (120), free throw percentage in a single season (.800) and career free throw percentage.
Â
After spending four years playing at the University of Cincinnati and being the first player in UC history to play in four postseason tournaments, Merriweather would have coaching stints at Cincinnati, Illinois-Chicago and Purdue before becoming the head coach at Wright State from 2016-21.
Â
In her first year at the helm of the Tigers, Merriweather led the team to their first winning season since 2015-16 and became just the second head women's basketball coach in Tiger history to exceed 15 wins in her first season with Memphis.
