Track and Field Begins Competition at Joe Walker Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis track and field is set to compete in this weekend's Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
This is the second meet at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex for the Tigers this season, and it will begin Friday at 1 p.m. with heptathlon events and finish up Saturday evening after all running events. This is their fifth-straight meet weekend of the season.
Competition consists of a large field with a total of 993 entries and 704 athletes.
The Tigers last saw 19 top-five performances at the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Liza Lap and Mona Jaidi both took home gold medals, while eight other athletes also placed in the top-three of their respective events.
Several athletes will start the weekend with a top-three spot in the American Athletic Conference, including Adam Yakobi, Cole Riddle, Iason Machairas, Parker Evans, Robert Watson and Vitaliy Favorov for the men. Chloe Figgins, DeeNia McMiller, Mona Jaidi, Vigdis Jonsdottir and Elina Nebl hold top-three conference rankings for the women's team.
After this weekend, the Tigers will have two meets in Alabama for the War Eagle and Crimson Tide Invitationals.
