Apr 22, 2022 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – The second-seeded Memphis Tiger men's tennis team earned a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded Wichita State in the quarterfinals of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship Friday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.
Â
No. 36 Memphis (15-6) moves on to face third-seeded Tulsa in the semifinals Saturday at noon.
Â
"Today was a great team win," Memphis head coach Paul Goebel said. "We came out with a lot of positive energy in doubles and got the doubles point. In singles, Jeremy Taylor and Pablo Alemany Malea put two more points on the board quickly, and Pau Fanlo did a great job closing out his match in two sets to get the deciding point. Tomorrow's semifinal match against host Tulsa should be a lot of fun."
Â
With his singles victory on court four, Alemany Malea improves to 16-0 on the season. Memphis' 29th-ranked doubles team of David Stevenson/Taylor also picked up a win Friday.
Â
With a win Saturday against Tulsa, the Tigers would advance to Sunday's championship match against the winner of the other semifinal between South Florida and SMU. Sunday's match starts at noon and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
