Track and Field to Compete at War Eagle Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis track and field will kick off events at the War Eagle Invitational Friday in Auburn, Ala.
This is the first of two meets the Tigers will have in Alabama before staying at home for the Memphis Invitational in two weeks. Competition is slated to begin at the Hutsell-Rosen Track at 2 p.m. Friday and will end early Saturday evening after relay events.
The last time out, the Tigers had 25 top-ten performances at the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by Ole Miss, where more than 700 athletes were competing throughout the weekend.
Robert Watson, Alyssa Morello, Elina Nebl and Rachel Fruchtmann all earned medals in their respective events. Payton Gleason stayed in Tennessee to compete in the Flames Invitational, hosted by Lee University, where he earned an eighth-place finish out of 80 runners for the men's 10k.
Several athletes hold a top-three spot in American Athletic Conference rankings including Adam Yakobi (third, 400m hurdles), Cole Riddle (third, pole vault), Iason Machairas (first, shot put), Parker Evans (third, shot put), Robert Watson (second, hammer) and Vitaliy Favorov (second, javelin) for the men.
DeeNia McMiller (second, shot put; second, hammer), Mona Jaidi (second, discus; first, javelin), Vigdis Jonsdottir (third, hammer) and Elina Nebl (second, javelin) hold a top-three ranking for the women's team.
