Track and Field Finishes Ole Miss Classic with Seven Medals

OXFORD, Miss. – University of Memphis track and field finished the weekend at the Ole Miss Classic with seven medals and an overall 28 top-10 performances.
The two-day meet was held at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex Friday and Saturday and was the first of two in Oxford this season.
Cole Riddle was one of the seven Tigers to earn a medal, finishing in the top spot for the men's pole vault, with a top clearance of 5.30m. This performance places him third among American Athletic Conference standings for the event.
Along with Riddle, the men took home four others of the team's seven medals across both track and field events: D'Angelo Whitehead (third, 100m), Adam Yakobi (third, 400m hurdles), Drew O'Connor (third, pole vault) and Robert Watson (third, 66.22m).
On the women's side, both DeeNia McMiller (third, shot put) and Mona Jaidi (second, hammer) grabbed top-three spots.
A few distance athletes did not travel to Oxford, but instead competed in the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina. Tate Wyatt's 3000m steeplechase performance moved him to third place in conference standings.
Other athletes earned new high conference rankings, which include Yakobi (third, 400m hurdles), Donovan LaJeunesse (fourth, 400m hurdles), Iason Machairas (first, shot put), Parker Evans (third, shot put), Watson (first, hammer) and Justin Miller (fifth, javelin). For the women, Chloe Figgins and Soltice Saliba hold third and fourth place, respectively, in the 5000m; others include Alyssa Morello (second, pole vault), McMiller (second, shot put; second, hammer), Jaidi (second, discus; fourth, hammer) and Vigdis Jonsdottir (third, hammer).
Next weekend, the Tigers will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the Joey Haines Invitational, hosted by Southeast Missouri State University.
