BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Memphis track and field teams ended Sunday's USA Invitational with 11 top-five performances.
The meet was hosted by the University of South Alabama and was held at the Birmingham CrossPlex. This was the first of two meets the Tigers will compete in at that location, with the next being the American Athletic Conference Championship at the end of the month.
DeeNia McMiller took home a first-place win in the women's shot put (15.33m) and followed with a silver in the weight throw (21.86m). This mark is just below her one at the previous meet, which still marks her 11th in the nation in the event.
Samantha Lenton also had a top-five finish in the weight throw, coming in fifth with a mark of 18.84m. McMiller and Lenton hold second and third place, respectively, in the AAC for the event.
Many other top-five performances came from track events, including Gabrielle Cross taking the silver in the women's 400m (56.82), and Lauren Metzger and Sonsoles Martin Rodriguez taking third and fourth, respectively, in the women's 5000m run.
