No. 16 Memphis Ready for GARC Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 16-ranked University of Memphis rifle team will head to West Point, N.Y. to compete in the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championship this Friday, Feb. 25 through Saturday, Feb. 26.
The two-day competition will feature smallbore on Friday and air rifle on Saturday. Live targets for both days' action can be found at GoTigersGo.com. The GARC Championships will feature the No. 16 Tigers, as well as No. 2 Kentucky, No. 4 West Virginia, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 8 Navy, No. 9 Akron, No. 11 Nebraska, No. 14 Army and No. 15 NC State.
Memphis earned the team's first win of the season this past weekend against No. 20 UT Martin, 4667-4631. The Tigers have faced one of the most difficult schedules in the country this season. Despite the team's 1-10 record, Memphis has shot well against No. 1 West Virginia, No. 4/5 Ole Miss, No. 6 Murray State, No. 7 Navy, No. 9 Akron twice, No. 13 Kentucky, No. 14 NC State and No. 14 Army.
On Tuesday, both Kaylene Castillo and Angeline Henry earned berths to the NCAA Championships as individuals. Henry earned a spot in the air rifle competition, while Castillo received a berth for smallbore.
At Memphis' NCAA qualifying match this past Sunday against No. 20-ranked UT Martin, Castillo won smallbore with a score of 585, while Henry won air rifle with a total of 595. For the season, Castillo averaged 571.636 in smallbore and Henry posted an average of 591.182.
