Duren, Williams Take Home AAC Honors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tiger men's basketball center Jalen Duren was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week and forward DeAndre Williams earned a place on the weekly Honor Roll for their efforts in helping the Tigers go 2-0 last week.

The Freshman of the Week award is Duren's second-straight and fourth of the season (Nov. 22, Dec. 20). Williams was also on the AAC Honor Roll Dec. 20.

Duren had double-doubles in Memphis' (14-8, 8-4 AAC) wins over Tulane Wednesday night and No. 6/7 Houston Saturday afternoon, averaging 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game for the week. He had 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Green Wave and 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Cougars, and he shot 78.6 percent from the field over the two games (11-14).

Williams averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds last week, and he also was 9-for-11 from the free throw line (.818). He had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds against Tulane, and he followed it up with 13 points, four assists, three steals and a blocked shot at Houston.

Duren and Williams combined for 16 offensive rebounds in the two contests.

Duren, Williams and the rest of the Tigers next play at Cincinnati Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT. Following the game against the Bearcats, the Tigers travel to SMU Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Memphis then returns to FedExForum to host Temple on Thursday, Feb. 24 and Wichita State on Sunday, Feb. 27.
