#5 Tigers Head to #4 Tulsa in Opening Round of AAC Championship

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team will open up postseason play on Sunday evening when they make the trip to Oklahoma to face-off with the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Memphis (8-4-4, 5-3-1 AAC) finished the regular season with a 2-0 win over UAB where Eric Primo and Gabriel Christensen netted goals in the first half to secure the victory. Colin Welsh, who notched his fourth Goalkeeper of the Week award, recorded five saves in the match, including a diving stop in the second half.
For the season, Alberto Cruz leads the team with seven goals while Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos has notched five goals and four assists. Welsh, who has spent the majority of time in-goal for Memphis this season, is currently ranks in the top-3 in the AAC in goals-against average (1.2), shutouts (5) and total saves (59).
Tulsa (9-3-2, 5-3-1 AAC) is coming off a season finale loss to SMU where the Mustangs got up to an early 3-1 lead over the Golden Hurricane with three goals in the opening 40 minutes. Tulsa would cut their deficit to one in the 50' after Alex Meinhard's second goal of the night, but Mustang goalkeeper Bram Kaarsgaren would make four of his game-high five saves in the second half to hand Tulsa the 3-2 loss.
For the season, Meinhard and Malik Henry-Scott lead the team with a combined 14 goals while Alex Lopez has made 35 saves in 11 appearances for the Golden Hurricane.
Memphis and Tulsa met a little over two weeks ago where the Golden Hurricane defense held the Tigers to just three shots for the entire match. Tulsa would go on to take the 3-0 win.
The Tigers have not seen over Tulsa since the 2019 season and have not beaten the Golden Hurricane on their home field since the 2018 season.
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kick-off in Tulsa. Coverage of the match can be on ESPN+.
