KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Thursday that Memphis senior Kendric Davis is one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2023 NABC Division I Player of the Year award.
The reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year enters his first season with the Tigers after spending the previous four years with SMU and TCU. The Houston, Texas native has accumulated 1,548 points, 520 assists and 362 rebounds in his career.
He led the AAC in scoring (19.4 ppg) and ranked third in assists (4.4 apg) in 2021-22 with the Mustangs.
In October, Davis was added to the watch list for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award and was unanimously selected preseason First-Team All-AAC.
Davis was also tabbed Preseason All-American by a host of other publications, including Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, CBS Sports and The Almanac, while Dick Vitale named him to his All-Rolls Royce squads.
The 2023 NABC Division I Player of the Year – selected by a vote of Division I head coaches - will be announced during the week of the 2023 Final Four in Davis' hometown of Houston. Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe captured the award last season.
