Memphis Falls at Buzzer to Seton Hall
Nov 24, 2022 | Men's Basketball
ORLANDO, Fla. āĀ Seton Hall's Tyrese Samuel heaved a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Pirates topped Memphis, 70-69, Thursday night in the first round of the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
Ā
With the Tigers (2-2) leading 69-67 and 2.3 seconds on the clock, the Pirates inbounded the ball to Samuel at the top of the key, and after failing to find an open teammate, threw up a shot and banked it in for the win and his only points of the game.
Ā
Memphis was led in scoring by Kendric Davis with 22, who also added seven rebounds and six assists. Big man Malcolm Dandridge contributed 14 points, four boards, two steals and two blocks in 20 minutes.
Ā
Two of the best defensive teams in the country clogged the game up in the first half as both sides struggled to find any rhythm. Ā
Seton Hall led by as many as seven points as the first half ticked down, but the Tigers used an 8-1 run to pull to within one before a dunk and free throw from Keonte Kennedy gave Memphis a 31-30 lead at the half.
Ā
The Tigers made all four of their three-pointers in the first half and got outrebounded 21-16 in the opening 20 minutes, while Seton Hall scored seven second-chance points.
Ā
