Four-Star Ashton Hardaway Joins the Family, Inks with Tigers
Nov 18, 2022 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's basketball adds a familiar name to its 2023-24 recruiting class as Ashton Hardaway has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for his father as a third-generation Tiger next season.
Hardaway, a 6-foot-8 and 210-pound forward, is rated a 4-star recruit and the No. 94 player in the country by On3. He is listed as the 21st-best power forward in the nation and the 18th-best prospect out of the state of California.
"We could not be more excited about having Ashton join the Memphis Tiger family next year," said head coach Penny Hardaway. "Obviously with him being my son, it makes it even more special. Both on and off the court, Ashton's addition to our program improves our roster immensely. He is someone who we feel has the drive and commitment it takes to succeed here at Memphis.
"He brings a skill set that will immediately make us better with his elite shot-making ability, his high-IQ, and his much-improved playmaking skills. He has won at the highest levels and knows exactly how to impact winning in a number of ways.
The younger Hardaway played his junior season at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas where he averaged 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game while leading his squad to a 35-1 overall record and a No. 1 ranking in the state of Texas. He helped the Panthers claim their third 6A state title in a row after defeating McKinney High School 69-49 in the championship match.
Hardaway made headlines in August when he moved east and joined powerhouse Sierra Canyon to play alongside Bronny James and Justin Pippen. The team took a foreign tour in mid-August to play exhibition games in London, Paris and Rome that were televised on the ESPN networks.
The 6-8 senior chose Memphis over offers from Kansas, Texas Tech, USC and Oklahoma State among others.
