Tigers Take on Howard in Saturday Afternoon Matchup

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will continue their season opening home stand when they host the Bison of Howard University this Saturday afternoon.
Memphis (0-1) is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Columbia after the Lion offense posted a 27-point fourth quarter to take the 77-69 final. Maddie Griggs and Jamirah Shutes led the way for the Tigers offensively, combining for 34 of the team's points.
The Tigers would get a big push from their bench, offensively, with 24 points coming from their reserves while the team shot just over 43% from the field.
Howard (1-0) opened their season with a 62-57 win over La Salle. Iyanna Warren led the team in scoring with 18 points, 10 of them coming from the free throw line, while Destiny Howell chipped in 17 points.
Last season when Memphis and Howard met, the Tigers came away with a nail-biting 56-50 win. Memphis would sink 10 free throws in the final 10 minutes of the game to secure the win while outrebounding the Bison 49-38 and holding them to just 25% shooting from the field.
This will be just the second matchup all-time between Memphis and Howard.
Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT with coverage available on ESPN+ and on 98.9 THE ROAR OF MEMPHIS with Jeff Brightwell on the call.
