MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the second time this season, a trio of Memphis Tigers have found themselves on the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Awards list. Cesar Sancho was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week, Colin Welsh was named as the Goalkeeper of the Week and Jovan Prado was named to the Honor Roll.
Sancho, a graduate student from Toledo, Spain, recorded his second assist of the season when he flicked the ball over to Alberto Cruz for the game-tying goal with 27 seconds left in the match against #12 Lipscomb. Sancho also helped anchor a Memphis backline that held FAU scoreless and to just two shots in the opening half in route to the Tigers fifth shutout of the season.
This is the first Defensive Player of the Week award for Sancho for the season and for his career.
Welsh, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., made six combined saves in the team's 1-1 draw with #12 Lipscomb and their 2-0 win over FAU. Welsh notched his fourth solo shutout of the season and the fifth for the team. He currently ranks second in the conference with his 46 total saves.
This is Welsh's third Goalkeeper of the Week award for the year and his fourth overall AAC Weekly Award for his career.
Prado, a senior from Houston, Texas, netted his fourth goal of the season after he netted the game-winning goal in the 70' off a penalty kick. The PK marked his second successful attempt this season.
This is Prado's first Weekly Honor Roll award for his career.
Memphis (7-3-4, 4-2-1 AAC) will be back in action this Friday night when they travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on South Florida. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with coverage available on ESPN+.
