Track and Field Picks Up Two Golds, Two Silvers Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Memphis' DeeNia McMiller and Cole Riddle both won gold in Saturday's PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, while Iason Machairas and Robby Watson added to the count with a silver each.
University of Louisville hosted the meet, which concluded Saturday evening at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.
McMiller took home the gold in the women's weight throw and also earned a bronze in shot put. Her new weight throw mark (21.87m) moves her up a spot in TFRRS rankings, bringing her to the ninth overall spot in the NCAA.
On the men's side, Riddle placed first in the men's pole vault (5.36m), gaining him a first-place ranking in the American Athletic Conference and the 14th spot in the NCAA for the event.
Both silvers were in shot put (Machairas, 18.62m) and weight throw (Watson, 19.72m). These marks place them first and second in the conference for those events, respectively.
Other athletes currently high in conference rankings include Zachary Wyatt (sixth, 800m), Solstice Saliba (second, 5000m), Alyssa Morello (third, pole vault) and Parker Evans (third, shot put).
Overall, the Tigers garnered 18 top-ten finishes, two more than at the Vanderbilt Invitational. In addition to this, many athletes set personal records and improved upon performances at the season opener.
Next weekend, the Tigers will continue their indoor meet stretch in Birmingham at the South Alabama Invitational Sunday. This meet will mark the halfway point in the indoor season to the AAC Championship at the end of February.
