MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Anthony Jones was one of 25 NCAA coaches to be selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy.
The NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy provides current, full-time college football coaches at NCAA member schools an educational opportunity to build connections and develop leadership acumen to pursue their career aspirations.
"We couldn't be happier for Anthony and his opportunity to participate in such a prestigious and important program like the NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy," Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Laird Veatch remarked. "Anthony is a rising star and we know he will make the most of this special opportunity."
As a coach at the academy, Jones will engage with industry experts and valuable peers across a wide variety of topics that will enhance his capabilities to serve as an effective coach and leader of student-athletes both on and off the field.
Topics will include effective communication with campus and community constituents, the importance of building a culture focused on the overall success of the student-athletes, budget management of a football program, and coaching strategies and philosophies. Equally vital will be discussion about managing himself personally throughout the rigors associated with life as a coach.
"This opportunity for Anthony is not only great for him personally, but also for all our student-athletes," head football coach Ryan Silverfield said. "Anthony will benefit from this opportunity at the NCAA and NFL Academy, as well as our student-athletes when he returns and shares all he's learned."
In addition to the high-level educational experience provided in collaboration with the NFL, Jones will walk away with a strong network of like-minded peers who will provide motivation and support during the ups and downs of a career in coaching. Completing the academy will equip Jones with a leadership toolkit and powerful network to strengthen his ability to succeed in his current role, while preparing him to achieve his future aspirations as a coach.
The program will take place February 22-24, 2022 at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, Ind. The program is delivered in collaboration with the NFL, who will bring in 25 additional attendees, all of whom will be former NFL players coaching at various levels in the collegiate, high school, or professional ranks.
