Tigers Take Down Big Ten Foe Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Memphis Tigers moved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over the Northwestern Wildcats Friday in Evanston, Ill.

The Tigers started off by securing the doubles point, with the 30th-ranked team of David Stevenson/Jeremy Taylor winning 6-3 over Northwestern's top team and Memphis freshmen Harry Rock/Pablo Alemany Malea winning in the third position, 6-4.

Northwestern won the first two singles points to take a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers grabbed the next three to capture the match. Malea won in the fifth spot, 6-3, 6-3, Stevenson bested No. 104 Simen Bratholm in the two-spot, 6-3, 6-4, and Rock secured the Tiger victory with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 triumph.

Up next for Memphis is competition in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn. The Tigers will face Western Michigan on Friday and either Tennessee or Old Dominion on Saturday.
