MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Zachary Wyatt and Chloe Figgins paced the men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, at the Tigers' season opener, held at the Mike Rose Complex Saturday evening.
Wyatt, a junior, finished first with a time of 20:01.05 for the men's four-mile run, placing 10th overall. He led the men's team to a sixth-place finish with a total time of 1:43:44.35. Wyatt's time is now the fastest time for the Tigers in Twilight Classic history.
On the women's side, sophomore Chloe Figgins placed 11th, finishing the race at 18:18.36 for the 5K run. The women placed seventh as a team, their times totaling 1:35:16.47.
"Both teams had a solid start," said cross country coach Ken Frenette. "Chloe Figgins and Solstice Saliba did a great job leading the way posting huge PRs. Also, Lydia Kurfman had a heck of a debut showing considering the adversity she has been dealing with for the past two years for injuries."
Saliba finished second for the women's team at 18:35.18, while Kurfman completed the race at 19:56.92.
Next up, the Tigers will travel to compete at the University of North Alabama Friday.
