Memphis Records Second Straight Perfect Tournament with Victory Over Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – For the second consecutive weekend, the Memphis Tigers (6-0) finished their road tournament in perfect fashion, as they took down Central Arkansas (1-2) in straight sets Saturday. While remaining undefeated, the Tigers made it 18 consecutive set victories to open the season. For their efforts in the tournament, Sabrina Bianco was named tournament MVP, while Miaya Smith and Bailey Houlihan were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Set 1
- Behind a match-best .278 hitting percentage and a match-low five errors, the Tigers opened with a first set victory for the ninth time in nine matches
- Central Arkansas led 7-3 and 12-11 before Memphis went on a 6-0 run to take control of the set 17-12
- Ahead by eight at 23-15, the Tigers gave up three straight points before kills from Smith and Bianco gave Memphis the opening set win 25-18
Set 2
- The Sugar Bears opened with a 4-1 run, but Memphis struck for five straight and the Tigers never relinquished the lead
- Two kills by Gigi Crescenzo were part of a Memphis 4-0 run as the Tigers took control 20-14
- Central Arkansas pulled with two at 23-21 and 24-22, but a Mackenzie Vernon attack error gave the Tigers the 25-22 set victory
Set 3
- Memphis jumped out to an early lead for the first time in the match at 4-2, but the Sugar Bears responded with a 5-0 run to lead 7-4
- Tabytha Toelke picked up two kills as part of a Memphis 4-0 run that put the Tigers in front 13-10
- The Sugar Bears leveled the set 14-14 on an attack error by Elizabeth Orf, but the Tigers retook control of the set with four of the next five points
- Ahead 18-16, Memphis used four consecutive Central Arkansas errors to take command at 23-16
- Smith's team-best 12th kill of the match wrapped up the match for Memphis at 25-18
Tigers Tidbits
- With 10 kills and 10 digs, Tabytha Toelke recorded her second double-double of the season and first since Memphis' first match
- After 18 kills across two matches Friday, Miaya Smith led the team with 12 against Central Arkansas and finished the weekend with a team-high 30 kills
- Smith went 12-20 on the attack for a match-best .600 hitting percentage
- Smith has recorded at least nine kills in all six matches this season and leads the team with 61 total kills
