KICKING IT OFF
• Coin Flip: Memphis won coin toss and deferred.
• Memphis Captains: Preston Brady and JJ Russell.
• Attendance: 30,263
TEAM NOTES
• With the 42-17-victory over Nicholls, Memphis has now won 16-straight games at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and 21-consecutive non-conference contests.
• The Tigers improved to 32-3 (.914) at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium since Ryan Silverfield joined the staff in 2016. Memphis is 7-0 at home with Silverfield as head coach.
• Memphis' victory over Nicholls marks the eighth-straight home opening win.
• The Tigers improved to 52-49-5 all-time in season-opening games.
• Saturday's season opener at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium marked the 11th-straight season that Memphis has started the season at home, which is the longest streak in program history.
• Memphis did not punt in the game, the first time accomplishing that since Oct. 24, 2017 against Navy.
• The Tigers rushed for 322 yards as a team, the most for the team since rushing for 401 against UCF on Oct. 13, 2018.
PLAYER NOTES
• Quarterback Seth Henigan became the first true freshman to start at quarterback in a season-opener in program history.
• Henigan finished the game 19-for-32 for 265 yards and his first career touchdown.
• Along with Henigan, running back Brandon Thomas, wide receiver Gabriel Rogers, offensive linemen Austin Myers and Jacob Likes and defensive back Julian Barnett all made their first career starts for the Tigers.
• Thomas finished with a game-high 147 rushing yards on 16 carries to go with one touchdown. The 100-yard rushing game was the first for the redshirt freshman.
• Kicker Joe Doyle finished the game a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals on the day with a long of 38 yards. The field goals were the first of his career.
• Doyle finished the game with 18 points, the most for a Memphis kicker since Riley Patterson (21) since the Cotton Bowl against Penn State on Dec. 28, 2019.
• Defensive back Sylvonta Oliver's interception in the fourth quarter was the second of his career.
• Wide receiver Javon Ivory finished the game with a team-high 106 yards on five catches. The 100-yard game was the second of his career.
• Thomas and Ivory's 100-yard performances marks the first time Memphis had a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver since Nov. 21, 2020 against Stephen F. Austin.
