Aug 30, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A key part of Memphis' 3-0 start at the Georgia State University Invitational over the weekend, middle hitter Elizabeth Orf has been named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
A graduate student in her second year with the Tigers, Orf got off to a stellar start, as she recorded a team-high 33 kills with a team-best .549 hitting percentage across Memphis' three wins. She added a team-high nine blocks during the Invitational. In the opening match of the tournament vs. California Baptist, Orf tallied 10 kills, six blocks, and a .625 hitting percentage. She followed that with an even better offensive performance with 16 kills and a .682 hitting percentage against Chattanooga. Orf helped Memphis wrap up the 3-0 weekend with seven kills and three blocks in Memphis' three-set win over Georgia State.
After the opening weekend of play for nearly all AAC teams, Orf ranks first in hitting percentage, fourth in kills, and T-11 in blocks. The Tigers as a team had one of the more impressive opening weekends of any AAC team, as they lead the conference in hitting percentage (.310), assists (135), and kills (144), even though they were the only team to play fewer than 10 sets.
The Tigers look to continue their perfect start as they head to the Central Arkansas Invite for two matches Friday and one Saturday.
