Memphis Athletics Begins 2021-22 with New Hires, Promotions

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Athletics has announced 23 new staff positions and promotions, plus restructured departments, designed to support its student-athletes and its overall mission.

"After a challenging year in so many respects, we are excited to be able to begin the process of looking towards the future," Memphis Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Laird Veatch said. "These new positions and well-deserved promotions will help position us to serve our student-athletes in the best way possible and provide a first-class experience for our fans."

Student-Athlete Welfare
Student-Athlete Welfare is a reorganized department that includes nutrition, sports medicine, strength and conditioning and student-athlete development. This new department is led by Marlon Dechausay, who was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Welfare.

The Tigers' Center for Athletic Academic Services helps Memphis student-athletes achieve their full potential in the classroom with academic counseling, tutoring and study skills services. In the Spring 2021 semester, Tiger student-athletes recorded a 3.268 grade point average, which is the second-best semester in school history and the 16th-consecutive term of a 3.0 GPA or higher among all student-athletes.

These two departments have been integrated to better serve donors and ticket holders with the goal of increasing external engagement, revenue generation and service and retention. The Tiger Scholarship Fund is led by Associate Athletic Director Blair DeBord, and Ticket Operations and Revenue Solutions is led by Associate Athletic Director Chris Condit.

Headed by Adam Mendez, who was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Events and Facilities, the Facilities and Operations department will also be adding a new position of Director of Facilities.
