BATON ROUGE, La. – University of Memphis track and field ended its regular season Saturday with four first-place finishes and several top performances at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge.
Max Emmerich and Robin Nool both had success in the men's field events, earning the top spot in the javelin throw (64.96m) and pole vault (5.32), respectively. Payton Gleason also continued success in the men's 3000m run, with his 8:23.77 first-place finish.
Samantha Lenton recorded her fourth consecutive top finish for the women's discus with her school-record 57.98m throw. After this meet, she is ranked 11th in the nation.
"Samantha's school record throw in the discus was a tremendous effort," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "One great thing about Sam is that she is not only a great discus thrower, but she is also a highly competitive shot put and hammer thrower. Her versatility is a huge benefit for the team and is a great indicator of her overall athleticism."
Lenton placed fifth in the hammer throw (58.90m) and seventh in shot put (14.84m).
"We now shift our focus to the post season," said Robinson. "Our conference meet will be coming up next and that will be our truest team test of the year, so I am hoping that we can stay healthy, remain motivated and bring our best efforts to that championship."
The team will travel to Tampa, Fla., for the American Athletic Outdoor Championships May 13.
