Track and Field’s 16 qualifiers start competition in NCAA East Regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Events begin Wednesday for the 16 University of Memphis track and field athletes who qualified to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Jacksonsville, Fla.
The meet is hosted by the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Sports Council. Competition starts with men's track and field first round events at 12:30p.m., today and will continue through Saturday.
Among the 16 qualifiers are Samantha Lenton and Adam Neelly, who will both be competing in multiple events. Lenton will compete in the women's shot put, discus and hammer throw, and Neelly will compete in the men's shot put and discus. Lenton still holds the fourth spot in the NCAA East Region and is 12th in the nation for the discus with her 57.98m throw at the LSU Invitational. Both athletes are winners of one of this season's American Athletic Conference weekly track and field honors.
Other competing athletes include field athlete Mona Jaidi, who won the 2021 Women's Most Outstanding Field Performance at the American Athletic Championships, and distance runner Zachary Wyatt. Jaidi placed first in the women's javelin at the AAC Championships earlier this month and currently stands at eighth in the nation for the event. Wyatt took third in the men's 10K with his 30:50.84 finish.
The complete list of qualifiers include Adam Yakobi, Zachary Wyatt, Robin Nool, Iason Machairas, Adam Neelly, Matthew Everett, Robert Watson, Max Emmerich, Ladasia Walton, Poorna Raorane, Samantha Lenton, Vigdis Jonsdottir, Amber Simpson, Mari-Liis Tulev, Elina Nebl and Mona Jaidi.
