AUBURN, Ala. – University of Memphis track and field saw multiple personal records and top-five performances over the weekend at the War Eagle Invite, hosted by Auburn University.
Amber Simpson reset the school record in the women's hammer throw with her second-place throw (64.65m). This performance puts her second in the American Athletic Conference, with Vigdis Jonsdottir and Samantha Lenton following behind her in fourth and fifth.
Lenton continued her success with her third consecutive first-place finish in the women's discus (55.28m). She also posted a personal best in the shot put, finishing fourth with her 15.30m throw.
The men found success in running events, led by Zachary Wyatt and Payton Gleason in the men's 5000-meter run, finishing sixth and seventh (14:19.40 and 14:19.96, respectively). Adam Yakobi posted a strong third-place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles (52.06).
"Zach and Payton both had very strong meets with multiple PRs," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Overall, I thought the distance groups and the sprints groups, as a whole, improved substantially."
Next up, the Tigers have an off weekend before heading to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Invitational.
