No. 23 Memphis women’s soccer loses at Ole Miss 3-1

OXFORD, Miss. – Memphis sophomore Mya Jones scored with one-tenth of a second left in the first half, but Ole Miss countered with three second-half goals to defeat the No. 23 Tigers 3-1 at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium on Monday.
Jones' goal on a blast from 15 yards near the right corner of the penalty box was the fourth of her career and first of the season. It was assisted by Stella Downing.
The Rebels' three goals came in the first 13:30 of the second half, beginning with a pair by Haleigh Stackpole at 47:50 and 52:59, the latter coming on a set-piece just outside the top of the penalty area. Saydie Holland ended the scoring at 58:30 by drilling a rebound off the post on an assist by Mo O'Connor.
Memphis fell to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the AAC while Ole Miss improved to 6-5 overall, 4-4 in the SEC. It ended a Tigers' two-game winning streak in the series.
Memphis outshot Ole Miss 10-9, and the Tigers had six shots on goal to four for the Rebels. Memphis goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg made one save while Ole Miss keeper Ashley Orkus had five. Memphis led in corner kicks, 3-1.
Jones led the Tigers with four shots, including two on goal, while Saorla Miller had three shots with two on goal, Samantha Murphy two shots with one on goal and Lara Kazandjian had a shot on goal.
Memphis returns home for an AAC game against UCF on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.at the Park Avenue Campus.
