MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis guard Boogie Ellis has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, and center Moussa Cisse has picked up his third Freshman of the Week award after helping the Tigers to wins last week against Tulane and at Cincinnati.
The Tigers (14-6, 10-3 AAC) returned from a COVID-19-related pause with the pair of wins last week, their fourth- and fifth-straight, to remain in the hunt for an AAC title.
Ellis started both games and averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing, and he connected on 7-of-15 3-point tries (.467) and made 7-of-8 free throws (.875). Two of his free throws came in the final seconds to help seal Sunday's win at Cincinnati.
The San Diego, Calif., native started the week with 13 points against Tulane, and he finished with 17 points and a season-high seven rebounds at Cincinnati. He led the Tigers in scoring each game.
Ellis was also named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll earlier this season on Nov. 30.
Cisse contributed 8.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last week, including 11 and seven at Cincinnati. He shot 53.8 percent from the floor (7-13), and he also added three blocks and a steal.
Cisse was also named AAC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14 and Jan. 25.
Eight different Tigers have earned weekly recognition from the conference this season. Ellis, D.J. Jeffries (Dec. 14), Lester Quinones (Dec. 21), Malcolm Dandridge (Jan. 18), Landers Nolly II (Jan. 25), DeAndre Williams (Feb. 1), and Alex Lomax (Feb. 8) have been on the Honor Roll, to go along with Cisse's three Freshman of the Week awards.
The Tigers are in Tampa, Fla., to play USF Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The regular season concludes Sunday at Houston, which was moved from being played FedExForum in Memphis. Houston is currently in second place in the AAC at 13-3. Tip-off at Houston will be at 11 a.m., and the game will be televised on CBS.
