In the past week, Tulane has faced off with the top two teams in the American Athletic Conference, suffering a two-point loss against UCF last Wednesday before falling by nine against USF on Saturday. Freshman of the Year frontrunner JerKaila Jordan (16.1 PPG) leads the team in scoring, while senior forward Krystal Freeman is the team's leading rebounder (7.4 RPG). Head coach Lisa Stockton, who is in her 27th year leading the Green Wave and 30th year overall as a head coach, is seeking her 600th career win as her team angles for one of the top seeds at next month's AAC Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
Among American Athletic Conference teams, Tulane is ranked:
>>2nd in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.97)
>>2nd in assists per game (14.5)
>>1st in fouls per game (14.7)
>>1st in field goal percentage (42.8%)
Tracking the Tigers
Memphis takes the floor after a difficult 71-50 loss at Houston on Feb. 14. Alana Davis led Memphis with 13 points against the Cougars, while Jamirah Shutes added 12, reaching double-figures for the first time in more than a calendar year. Senior forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (14.9 PPG, 11.3 RPG) leads the team in scoring and rebounding. Interim head coach Michele Savage, a former Tulane assistant under Lisa Stockton, will lead the Tigers for the first time, following the retirement of head coach Melissa McFerrin on Feb. 14. Memphis had their past three games postponed due to snowfall totaling as high as eight inches in some districts between Feb. 14 and Feb. 18.
Among American Athletic Conference teams, Memphis is ranked:
>>2nd in free throw percentage (70.2%)
>>2nd in rebounding margin (5.1)
>>2nd in rebounds per game (40.1)
Saluting Seniors
Tuesday's game will be the last scheduled home contest for seniors Alana Davis, Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, and Keke Hunter. The three veterans have combined for 1,779 points and 1,201 rebounds over the course of their careers. Davis needs 19 points to become the 26th Tiger in Memphis women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Mendjiadeu has 23 career double-doubles, one shy of entering the top-5 all time in program history.
