Tigers knock off Missouri in Columbia, split weekend play

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Memphis women's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over Missouri Friday in Columbia, Mo., and came away with a weekend split after a 4-1 loss to Iowa State on Saturday.

On Friday, Memphis (1-7) lost the doubles point but took the first three singles points behind Aran Teixido Garcia, Sophie Abrams, and Alisha Reayer. Missouri picked up a point from the third position, but Memphis' Katherine Cao clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Missouri's Serena Nash.

"This was a great day for the girls," Memphis head coach Hayden Perez said. "I am happy for them. They competed hard and were ready for the tough moments in the match. I am proud of our team spirit and good attitudes, and they deserve this win."

Abrams picked up Memphis' (1-8) only point in Saturday's match against Iowa State, battling back from losing the first set to take the next two, 6-2 and 6-1. Teixido Garcia and Laura Bente battled their opponents to three sets.
