Bates, Duren on Two National Top Player Watch Lists

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers freshmen Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren have added two more national top player watch lists to their collections of preseason accolades as the regular season gets underway tonight.
The pair are among 50 candidates for both the 2022 Naismith Trophy and the 2022 John R. Wooden Most Outstanding Player Award, placing them among the top men's basketball student-athletes in the country.
Additionally this preseason, Bates was named to the Sporting News Preseason All-America Second Team and earned a spot on the 2022 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award Watch List. He was also voted to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Second Team.
Duren holds a spot on the 2022 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Watch List, and he also was voted the AAC's Preseason Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-AAC First Team.
Bates, Duren and the No. 12/16 Tigers open the 2021-22 campaign tonight at FedExForum against Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m.
