Memphis Opens NCAA Tournament at Home Sunday Against LSU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the first time in program history, the Memphis Tigers will host the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Billy J. Murphy Track & Field Complex when they take on the Tigers of LSU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Memphis, who won their second AAC Championship this past Sunday, comes into Sunday's match with an overall record of 13-4-2, saw five players, Elizabeth Moberg, Saorla Miller, Kimberley Smit, Caroline Duncan and Haylee Spray, named to the All-Tournament Team while Moberg and Miller were named the Most Outstanding Defensive and Offensive Players of the tournament, respectively.
This is the fourth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 10th overall for Memphis.
The Tigers, who have had balanced scoring from their team this season, has outscored their opponents 38-10 this season while recording 11 shutouts this season.
As a team, Memphis ranks 5th in the country in corner kicks per game and has the 6th lowest goals against average in NCAA Division I. They are also ranked in the top-20 in the country in shutout percentage (13th) and shots per game (19th).
LSU (11-7-1) comes into Sunday's match after not playing since Nov. 2 when they fell 2-1 to 5th ranked Arkansas in the Southeastern Conference Quarterfinals.
For the season, Tinaya Alexander and Alesia Garcia lead the way for the Tigers, offensively, with a combined 15 goals and 10 assists in 19 games. Seven other LSU players have recorded multiple goals this season while 13 total players have scored for the Tigers.
Mollee Swift has been the go-to for LSU in goal this season, collecting 76 saves in just over 1,600 minutes of work. She has picked up all 11 wins for the Tigers while getting six shutouts in the process.
The winner of Sunday's match will go on to face off against the winner of (1) Duke/Old Dominion on Nov. 19.
