
Memphis Comes Up Short at UCF, 24-7

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Memphis football team fell on the road to UCF at the Bounce House in Orlando, Fla., 24-7, on Friday night. With the setback, the Tigers fall to 4-4 on the season overall and to 1-3 in American Athletic Conference (AAC) play. UCF improves to 4-3 on the year and to 2-2 in league action.

Making his first career start for an injured Seth Henigan, quarterback Peter Parrish completed 31-of-48 passes for 215 yards and three interceptions. Parrish also rushed the ball a team-high 22 times for 60 yards in the effort.

Wide receiver Calvin Austin III had a team-best seven receptions for 44 yards, while running back Brandon Thomas had a nine-yard touchdown run for Memphis, his eighth of the season.

Defensively, defensive back Quindell Johnson led the Tigers with a game-high 11 tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss. Linebacker JJ Russell had nine stops and one TFL, while defensive back Tyrez Lindsey had his first career interception to go with eight tackles.

After spotting the Knight a 14-0 lead, Memphis cut into the deficit with on the nine-yard Thomas touchdown run to make the score 14-7 at the half. UCF turned the heat up defensively in the second half, forcing three turnovers, including two interceptions in the endzone, to stifle any potential Tiger rally.

The Memphis Tigers will return home to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 6 when the team will play host to AAC rival and No. 21/19-ranked SMU. Time and television network for the game are to be announced.
