MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a big two wins last weekend that put the No. 15 Tigers into first place in the American Athletic Conference, Memphis (10-1-1, 4-0-0 AAC) will welcome the Bulls of South Florida to town for a Sunday afternoon match-up at the Track & Soccer Complex.
Senior Tanya Boychuk played a big part in the team's wins over Tulsa and Cincinnati when she scored both game-winning goals to keep the Tigers perfect in conference play. Boychuk's efforts on the pitch last week was good enough to earn her the AAC Offensive Player of the Week honor. Aubrey Mister and Saorla Miller also picked up goals last week with Miller scoring the game-tying goal in the team's match against Cincinnati.
Elizabeth Moberg has also gotten in on the excitement; with Memphis' 2-0 win over the Golden Hurricane, Moberg officially tied the program record with 38 career shutouts. She is also two wins behind current leader, Elise Kuhar-Pitters, for program career wins.
For the season, Boychuk leads the offensive charge with six goals and an assist while Miller and Mister both have four goals recorded thus far. Ten other Tiger players have recorded goals this season. As a team, Memphis has outscored their opponents 29-6 while holding opposing offenses to just 22 corner kicks in 12 matches.
South Florida (8-3-2, 3-1-1 AAC) is coming off their first conference loss of the season to then No. 15 ranked SMU. The Mustang's Lindsey Whitmore put SMU on her back and scored in the 4' and 63' of play to help SMU take the 2-0 win. South Florida didn't go down easy; they fired off eight shots on-goal during the match but were unable to find the back of the net.
For the season, Sydny Nasello leads the Bulls offense with eight of the team's 16 goals this season while Sydney Martinez has been USF's go-to in goal. Martinez has recorded 45 saves in 13 appearances.
