MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After helping the Memphis Tigers to a pair of 20-point conference wins last week, Moussa Cisse has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week and sophomore Landers Nolley II has been named to the league's Honor Roll.
Â
Cisse, the preseason AAC Rookie of the Year and a member of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Watch List, averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in Memphis' wins over Wichita State and East Carolina last week. He had 12 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday against the Shockers, his third double-double of the season, and he finished with a career-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds Sunday at East Carolina.
Â
Cisse shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the two wins (13-22, .591), and he also blocked four shots during the week. The Conakry, Guinea, native was also named AAC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14, and he currently leads the conference in blocks per game (1.8) and is sixth in rebounding (7.5) this season.
Â
Nolley II averaged 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the Tigers' two victories, and he also hit five of his 10 3-point tries. He started the week with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in 26 minutes against Wichita State, and he also went 4-of-5 from 3-point range. He grabbed seven more rebounds in Sunday's win at East Carolina, and he had two steals against the Pirates.
Â
Nolley II, who was on the 2021 John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List, was also named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Dec. 7. He currently leads the team and sits 11th in the conference in scoring this season (13.5 ppg), and he is fourth in the AAC in free throw percentage (.857) and sixth with an average of 2.5 triples per game.
