Tigers fall to Kentucky Friday
Jan 22, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's tennis suffered a 7-0 setback against SEC opponent Kentucky on Friday.
Kentucky took the doubles point after claiming courts one and three. Memphis pair senior Josephine Cao and freshman Sophie Abrams started off strong, but were unable to complete their match against Kentucky's Carlota Molina and Carla Girbau.
Memphis struggled to make any headway during singles as Kentucky claimed each court.
Abrams dropped her first set against Akvile Parazinskaite but rallied back to claim the second set. The match would end with Parazinskaite holding on for a 6-4 final in the third set tiebreaker.
"Kentucky is a good team and deserved to win today, but at the same time we made it hard on ourselves in most positions," said Memphis head coach Hayden Perez. "We're going to take this as a lesson and give Vanderbilt everything we have on Sunday."
Next up for the Tigers is a road match against Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m. For more information on the Memphis women's tennis team, follow the Tigers on social media at @MemphisWomensTennis.
