MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the 11th time in program history, Memphis men's soccer earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Eligible College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year. Memphis was also one of 172 schools nationally to have both its men's and women's programs recognized.
"It speaks volumes to the expectation level not only on the field but also taking care of business off the field. This award gives them that. We're honored to be on it," head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "It's an award that is not only important now but for the rest of their lives in setting standards and work ethic. It represents the support staff we have at Memphis with our academic services as well. It represents everyone and we're very pleased to receive the recognition for the work put in last year."
The Tigers posted a 3.31 team GPA during the 2019-20 year. The program also had 18 representatives on the American Athletic Conference's All-Academic Team this summer.
Each of the Tigers' 11 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic awards has come since 2007. In addition, Memphis has also been eligible for the award in 10 of the last 12 academic seasons, including four consecutive years.
