Track And Field's Fleming, Neelly Named To AAC SAAC Board

Fleming to serve as public relations coordinator, Neelly coordinator of student-athlete engagement.
IRVING, Texas – University of Memphis track and field's Jamaya Fleming and Adam Neelly have been named to the American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board for the 2020-21 school year, the league office announced Thursday.

Fleming, a junior, is the Board's coordinator of public relations, and Neelly, a senior, is serving as the Board's coordinator of student-athlete engagement.
The American SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the Conference's 12 member institutions. The mission of SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school as well as enhance communications between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and American legislations, and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.

Fleming was named to the 2018-19 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and also earned Tiger 3.0 Club recognition for the 2019 spring semester. She is a health studies major with a concentration in health sciences.

On the track, Fleming has run two indoor campaigns and only one outdoor season, with the 2020 season canceled due to the pandemic. In her career, Fleming has six top-five performances. Her top finishes came as a member of the 4x100-meter relay in the 2019 outdoor season, placing second at the Rhodes College Invitational and third at the Memphis Tigers Invitational. She has appeared in all three American Athletic Conference Championships (2019, 2020 indoor/2019 outdoor).

The Memphis, Tennessee, native is active away from the track. The 2020-21 year is her second as a member of the Memphis SAAC and her first to serve as a representative to the American Athletic Conference. Fleming works with the Step Ahead Foundation, which assists women with family planning, and Girls Inc. She previously was a Girls Inc. participant and is now a volunteer with the organization. In addition, she works for UMRF Ventures on campus and also with Dr. Robert Kaplan as a medical assistant.

Neelly was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America third team for men's track and field in June. He also is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District III selection (2019, 2020), a three-time American Athletic Conference and U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honoree, and a seven-time Dean's List student. He earned his bachelor's degree in business economics and is working on his Master of Business Administration (MBA).

The Gallatin, Tennessee, native is a three-time NCAA East Preliminaries qualifier in the shot put in 2017 and 2018 and discus in 2018. He has nine career outdoor top-three throws performances, including a bronze in the discus at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships. During the indoor seasons, Neelly has 13 top-three finishes. He medaled in the shot put at the 2018 (bronze) and 2019 (silver) AAC Championships.

Outside the competition arena, Neelly has been a member of the Memphis SAAC since his freshman year and is serving as the UofM's SAAC president in 2020-21. He was the Tigers' SAAC vice president in 2018-19. Neelly has been involved in Read for America in the Memphis area's public schools, and also has volunteered as a college leader at his church the last four years. He has spearheadedMADDY (Mental Health Awareness Day to De-Stress Yourself) to bring student-athletes together to build community while engaging in activities to manage stress. The last two summers, Neelly has interned with Ameriprise Financial, a top wealth management company.
