MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Landers Nolley II, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward from Virginia Tech, will be eligible to play for the University of Memphis men's basketball team this season after the NCAA approved the UofM's transfer waiver request Thursday.
Nolley will be a strong addition to Tiger coach Penny Hardaway's third Memphis team. He was a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team last season and averaged 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in his lone season with the Hokies.
Nolley also was named All-ACC Honorable Mention and was a member of the 2019-20 ACC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team.
During the 2019-20 season, he played in 32 games and made 29 starts for the Hokies. His scoring average ranked ninth in the ACC and 12th nationally among freshman. He became the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since Virginia Tech joined the ACC 15 years ago.
In his Nov. 5 debut, Nolley scored 30 points against Clemson to set a school record. He was named ACC Freshman of the Week five times during the season.
Nolley sat out the 2018-19 season as a redshirt after a stellar high school career. He led his teams to three straight state championships, one in Chicago and two in Fairburn, Ga., with Langston Hughes High.
At Langston Hughes, he set the school record for career points in just two seasons and was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year – and all-state – his senior season. He averaged 31 points eight rebounds and three assists as a senior.
Nolley had a 56-point game in high school and led the state of Georgia in scoring as a senior.
While playing for Curie High in Chicago as a sophomore, he averaged 17 points per game en route to leading the team to the 4A state title.
