Jun 25, 2020 | Men's Track and Field
Tigers have had eight Academic All-Americans in the last four years.
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Memphis track and field's Adam Neelly has been selected to the 2020 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Men's Track and Field Academic All-America third team, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
The CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition is the first of Neelly's career.
Â
It is the fourth-straight year Memphis track and field has placed a student-athlete on the CoSIDA Men's Track and Field Academic All-America team. The last four years (2017-2020), Tigers track and field has had eight student-athletes (men/women combined) earn CoSIDA Academic All-America distinction. Prior to 2017, the program had only two Academic All-Americans.
Â
Neelly, who is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District III selection in 2019 and 2020, holds a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) in his Master of Business Administration (MBA) studies. As an undergraduate, he posted a 3.99 GPA in business economics.
Â
Neelly is a three-time American Athletic Conference and U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honoree. He is a seven-time Dean's List student and also a five-time member of the Academic 30, a group that recognizes the UofM athletics department's top 30 GPA.
Â
The Gallatin, Tennessee native returns for his final campaign in 2020-21 as the 2020 outdoor season was canceled due to the pandemic. Neelly has competed in three indoor (2017-19) and two outdoor (2017-18) campaigns.
Â
Neelly is a three-time NCAA East Preliminaries qualifier in the shot put in 2017 and 2018 and discus in 2018. He has nine career outdoor top-three throws performances, including a bronze in the discus at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships. During the indoor seasons, Neelly has posted 13 top-three finishes. He medaled in the shot put at the 2018 (bronze) and 2019 (silver) AAC Championships.
